Etche Council Chairman, Chima Njoku, Suspends Illegal Revenue Roadblocks in Igbo-Etche

END OF ILLEGAL TOLLS: ETCHE LG CHAIRMAN CHIMA NJOKU SUSPENDS ALL REVENUE ROADBLOCKS IN IGBO-ETCHE

PORT HARCOURT / OKEHI, RIVERS STATE — In a decisive move to restore order and ease the burden on commuters and traders, the Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Chief (Hon.) Chima Boniface Njoku, JP, has ordered the immediate suspension and dismantling of all illegal revenue roadblocks mounted across Igbo-Etche.
The directive was issued during a high-level peace and reconciliation meeting convened between the leadership and youths of Edegelem and Umuakuru communities. The historic gathering was hosted at the palace of the Onyeshi Agwuru Asa, His Royal Majesty, King Dr. Samuel Ndiwe Amaechi, JP.

Paving the Way for Peace and Order

The intervention by the Council Chairman comes as part of broader peace initiatives aimed at defusing tensions, fostering unity, and opening constructive dialogue between the youth factions of both Edegelem and Umuakuru towns.
Addressing the traditional rulers, youth leaders, and community elders present, Chief Njoku emphasized that extortionate, unauthorized revenue collection points not only fuel local friction but also undermine economic growth and security within the axis.
“We cannot allow unapproved activities to undermine the peace and security of our local government. Lasting development can only thrive in an atmosphere of law, order, and mutual trust,” Chief Njoku stated.
