IGBODO, RIVERS STATE — There was widespread excitement, jubilation, and celebration among the residents of Obi Community in Igbodo, Etche Local Government Area, as they conferred the prestigious chieftaincy title of “Ekwueme 1 of Obi Community” (the one who promises and delivers) on the Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Council, Chief Hon. Chima Boniface Njoku.
The honour was bestowed on the Chairman in profound appreciation of his administration’s rapid developmental interventions across the community.
Expanded Development and Grassroots Commitment
Speaking during the conferment ceremony, Chief Chima Njoku assured the people of Obi Community that his administration remains steadfast in spreading infrastructure and developmental initiatives across the length and breadth of Etche Land. He urged the community to reciprocate the administration’s gestures by providing unalloyed support to candidates of the Rainbow Coalition.
Reaffirming his commitment to basic amenities, the Council Chairman directed the immediate commencement of work on the Obi Community Water Project. The facility, designed to provide clean, potable water to residents, will be centrally located to ensure easy access for all households.
Addressing the crowd, Chief Njoku emphasized that despite political criticisms, his administration will stay focused on delivering projects that directly transform everyday lives.
“That incompetent chairman that God had qualified has made history in Etche by giving light to Obi Community in Ward 14, Etche Local Government Area. He has also provided potable water for the people of Obi Igbodo,” Chief Njoku stated.
He further noted that these projects are not favors but part of his sworn constitutional responsibility to serve the people and elevate living standards at the grassroots level.
Political Alignment & Support for National Leadership
Chief Chima Njoku called on the people of Etche to appreciate the leadership and contributions of Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He urged community leaders and residents to rally behind candidates of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Community Gratitude and Celebrations
In their official address read by Mr. S. N. Ogbonnaya, the people of Obi Community expressed deep gratitude to the Chairman. They noted that for many years, the community had suffered from limited government presence and a lack of essential social amenities.
Mr. Ogbonnaya commended Chief Njoku for connecting the community to the electricity grid and grading local roads, describing the interventions as monumental milestones capable of spurring socio-economic activities and improving livelihoods.
The grand ceremony featured colorful cultural dance performances, drama presentations, a ceremonial parade, and the formal presentation of traditional gifts to the Chairman.
