ETCHE, RIVERS STATE — The lawmaker representing the Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Kelechi Nwogu, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Paramount Ruler of Etche land, His Royal Majesty, Eze E.N.B. Opurum, JP, DSSRS, MFR.

During a condolence visit, the federal lawmaker expressed total support for the recent directive issued by the palace mandating that all traditional celebrations, festivals, and related cultural ceremonies across the constituency be suspended until the late monarch is laid to rest. Hon. Nwogu described the palace order as a respectful, necessary measure consistent with the rich heritage and customs of the Etche ethnic nationality.
Speaking during his visit, Hon. Nwogu stated:

“I align myself completely with all directives and decisions of the palace that all forms of traditional celebrations—by whatever name or whatever intention—should cease until our monarch is buried. It is our tradition. It is our culture.”
The federal lawmaker further appealed to the entire citizenry of Etche to safeguard peace, dignity, and unity throughout the mourning period. He emphasized that the departure of His Royal Majesty, Eze Opurum, represents a colossal loss not only to his immediate family, but to the entire Etche ethnic nation.
Lawmaker Pays Sympathy Visit to Dr. Reginald Onwuka over Father’s Passing
In a related solemn engagement within his constituency, Hon. Kelechi Nwogu paid a condolence visit to the family of Dr. Reginald Onwuka following the passing of his revered father, the late Elder Michael Nwaonugha.

Hon. Kelechi Godspower Nwogu is a Nigerian politician and lawmaker currently serving as the Federal Representative for the Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly.
Born on December 15, 1978, in Omuma LGA, Rivers State, Nigeria. Hon. Nwogu completed his higher education at the University of Port Harcourt before pursuing private enterprise and public service. He began his political career as a local government aide before contesting and winning a seat in the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2011 to represent Omuma State Constituency. He served three consecutive terms in the state legislature (7th, 8th, and 9th Assemblies), chairing key committees such as Sports, Local Government, and Chieftaincy Affairs.
In the 2023 general elections, Hon. Nwogu contested under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and won the election to represent the Etche/Omuma constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, he also serves as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Agricultural Production & Services.
